CAS176 & WAW36 ~ Sturdy Shelter ~

Thought I would pop in and show you another card I created with Our Daily Bread Designs' Faithful Friend set.  I got this set a week or so back and I just can't put it down!  I love it when a stamp set just seems to work for every project!  The sketch is from this week's Clean and Simple Challenge at Splitcoast.

I scored the bottom of the white card stock base before placing a matted layer of Authentique paper. I matted the sentiment on a simple black card stock panel and fussy cut the dragonfly. After adding Diamond Stickles to his "wings" I popped him on the card with dimensional foam. Super easy! Gotta love that! As always thanks for stopping in! I love to hear from you!

Don't forget on July 1st, Our Daily Bread Designs will release new stamp sets! (...they are FABULOUS!) For my Cricut fans stop in next week on Monday and Friday for some Exploring Cricut posts! And next Thursday the ODBD Alumni team will be having a hop! And it promises to be fun! Stay tuned, as I will be having a fun giveaway in July as well! It promises to be a wonderful month! Until next time... blessings...

F4A122 & SSIC145 ~ Bling It Up

Sometimes the simplest of ideas goes completely, utterly out of control. That is exactly what happened to me over the weekend as I decided to try out some new Distress Paint. As sometimes happens, I couldn't just settle on plan A. I had to jump head long into plan B. After cutting and gluing two cardboard die cuts together, painting them and watching them crackle up, I had a bright idea! I decided that some added bling would be JUST the ticket. And so I ran to my embellishment stash faster than you can say glitter. And glitter I did! After adding spray adhesive, I blinged it up with coarse crystal glitter. But oh, how my heart longed to do even more! So I sprayed yet again and added fine crystal glitter! And there, where shortly before a double layer of fleur de lis shaped cardboard had been was the most beautiful sight I had ever beheld! (OK, MAYBE I sniffed just a LITTLE too much spray adhesive during this undertaking...) lol...

This card will go to a lovely couple getting married in a few days.  One half of the happy couple loves the New Orleans Saints.  (Henceforth the fleur de lis and color scheme...)  After said fleur de lis dried, I added it to the card stock base with dimensional foam. I paper pierced the edge of the white focal panel with my Stampin' Up paper piercer and template! And then I stamped my sentiment (Our Daily Bread Designs' Dreams set) on white CS, cut and embossed it with a die from Spellbinders Ribbon Banners set and added a few tiny paper pierced accents. The banner was placed on top with dimensional foam.  I added a couple of tiny baker's twine bows for interest. To keep with the Saints theme, I chose a white card stock base and then layered black card stock under a lovely gold card stock. Very regal!

So here she is...

And a close up of some of the details...

This one will go to a couple of challenges this week as well...

WT370 Windows & Doors ~ For All You Do ~

Today, I am sharing a card I created for Splitcoast Stamper's Ways To Use It Challenge.  This week participants were asked to create something with a window and/or door.  I wanted to do something a little different.  Most of the cards I see show a scene looking outside the window.  I wanted to create something that looked as if you were outside gazing in.

To create the brick I embossed a white card stock panel with Tim Holtzs' Alteration Bricked folder. I then took my Memento London Fog ink pad and run it over the embossed paper until I achieved the desired look. I added some Ranger Distress Ink (Pumice Stone) with a inking sponge for depth. Once the panel was dry, I used a rectangular Spellbinder die to cut out the window opening. I placed a layer of DP beneath with dimensional foam. I looked for a pattern that reminded me of old wallpaper. I trimmed the brick panel with black card stock and then kraft. The window and window box die were added with dimensional foam. I layered on some liquid adhesive and added my greenery layer (Meadow). After it dried, I added more liquid glue and some Flowersoft in Sweet Pea. I stamped my sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs' Serve the Lord set on the bottom of my white card stock base. I then added my bricked & matted panel. The final step... I added a few black rhinestone beads for interest. I promise the project is not nearly as complicated as it sounds! Thanks so much for stopping in and until next time...

Blessings...

If you upload your creations to Splitcoast Stampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword ODBDSLC113. When creating your posts on blogs please include a link to our challenge.

My creation for the week...

For this card I chose to use black and cream card stock.  The finished card measures 5 x 7 inches.  My matted layer (black card stock) was run through a paper crimper for added texture.  I stamped the sentiment panel base with two images, a daisy bouquet from Daisy and bees from Simple Things.  Both were stamped with Ranger Black Soot Distress Ink.  I elected to use a scripture set from the Seed Packet set and stamped it on scrap vanilla card stock.  I used coordinating Spellbinders to cut/emboss and frame the sentiment.  A black pearl flourish from Kaisercraft was nestled under the panel and for interest I added both a daisy and rose blossoms.  Some paper punched leaves finished it off.

Thanks for stopping in and be sure to check out what my other Sister Sticks have for ya... Blessings...

Exploring Cricut ~ Daily Project!

Good Friday morning to ya! I am so excited to have a Cricut Expression that works! After taking a forced sabbatical from Cricuting I am finally back in action. And today I am popping with a fun and funky daily project for Exploring Cricut. This isn't my normal "frilly" creation. I pulled out a sorely neglected cartridge, Nifty Fifties for this one. And my creation is one COOL cat...

My base is white card stock cut to create a 4 1/4 x 5 1/4 inch card. I used Provocraft's Spots & Dots Embossing Folder for some pizzaz. The kitty was cut at 4 1/4 inches (black card stock) and then run through a xyron to make it tacky. I then covered the cat with black flocking. Because the cat was relatively small, I opted to cut pink for the ears and nose only (4 1/4 inches also). A few white pearls add a fun "collar" for my feline friend. The aqua base is also 4 1/4 inches. But the word cool which I pulled from the phrase "cool cat" is only 2 inches. I attached everything with dimensional foam for depth. So cool! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!) Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

QFTD117 ~ Spotlighting ~

This weekend I took a few moments to play along with some fun challenge at Splitcoast. I always enjoy seeing what all of the participants come up with. This time I wanted to honor SCS's Queen for the Day, Cathy, aka cathymac on Splitcoast. You can check out her fabbo gallery HERE.

To honor Cathy, I selected a card from her gallery and used the same technique called spotlighting.

I stamped my image, Faith on two sheets of Neenah, coloring one with Copics. I then cut the colored image with a small Spellbinder and the uncolored image with a large SB. I nested them together with dimensional foam. The sentiment is from ODBD's Birthday Blessings set. This was a quick and easy project! Perfect for a hectic weekend! Thanks for stopping in!

~ God's Mercy ~

And aren't we glad?  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I want to share a card that I created using some "non-traditional" colors...  at least for me anyway!  I found some papers by Kaisercraft and decided to play.  The collection is called Seaside and with that in mind I pulled out a new Provocraft embossing folder (Hawaiian Shirt) and added some Magnum PI to the case...  :-)

I told ya it was busy! lol... This card has more orange, yellow and aqua than I EVER work with! The lace is a bargain rack find at Michaels and I used standard Circle and Petite Scalloped Spellbinder dies for the sentiment. The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Design's The Sea set. Very appropriate this time of year... Thanks for stopping in! I will spend the rest of the day trying to get the Magnum PI theme song out of my head! Blessings!!

MOJO245 ~ Stand Firm ~

Things have been busy around the Ulrich household.  Unfortunately my Cricut is still MIA...  Let's NOT talk about that...  LOL...  So in the meantime I am making due with the help of some dear friends and a massive collection of stamps!

This is the second post for me today.  Today is the first chance I have had to work on the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.  So at the risk of boring you to death today, I am posting something else.  Here's the sketch...

And here's my attempt...

I used coordinating papers from the Be Amazing Collection by My Mind's Eye. The stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs may be found in the Not Forgotten set.  The flower is a happy creation I came upon while reading another blog, Clare's Creations. Clare Buswell has this fabulous tutorial on how to make paper carnations. Unfortunately, I do not own the Sizzix die she referred to in the video but I improvised! I pulled out a 5 petal paper punch by Stampin' Up and went to work. I followed her instructions to the letter with the exception of the paper punch.  I really like how it turned out! Be sure to check out the link to her blog above for the details! Thanks for stopping by! Blessings...

CAS174 & SRC128 ~ Adventure ~

This week the Clean & Simple crew at Splitcoast are hosting a white on white challenge. First of all clean and simple simply SCARES me! And I can count the number of dominately white cards I have done over the years on one hand! With all of these phobias in mind, this sentiment from Helen Keller says it all...

Just do it! And where have I heard that before? ;-) So with that in mind I am entering this in a new challenge for me this week, Clean and Simple over at Stampin' Royalty.  See ya next time...

CAS174, TLC381 ~ Nothing Will Be Impossible

Thanks so much for stopping by! Today I have another clean and simple card I submitted for a couple of challenges at Splitcoast. I played along with the Clean and Simple Challenge (White on White) and the Try a New Technique (Half it). The dies are some new Memory Box dies I received recently. For my "half" I cut the Bird Cage in Half and adhered it over the bird die cut. Pretty simple! The sentiment is one of my favorites from ODBD's Seed Packet set.

And here it is...

So I'm interested in your feedback! Do you like the Clean & Simple cards I've had or do you like the Fussy & Frilly ones I do? I like both depending on my mood! Operators are standing by... so you may submit your vote! :-) Blessings...

WT378 ~ The Sea ~

Welcome! So glad you could stop by today. My dear friend and Our Daily Bread Design Team member, Sabrina sent me a lovely package recently. Inside she carefully packed seam binding, blossoms, charms and chipboard. One of the treasures she sent was a metal pocket watch embellie from Michaels. That gift triggered this card...

My base is kraft card stock with a layer of caribbean blue paper. I selected designer paper by K & Company. I distressed the edges with a distressing tool and added distress ink to all sides. I then crinkled it up, flattened it back out and glued it to the base. This weeks SCS Ways to Use It Challenge involves banners. So I stamped my sentiment (ODBD's The Sea set) on kraft paper and cut a banner. I couldn't resist adding some hemp twine and a bit of Flower Soft Ultrafine Sand in the corner of the watch for interest. Almost looks like it washed up on shore! Thanks for stopping in and until next time!

CAS173 ~ Merry Christmas ~

It's Christmas in June!  I created my first Christmas card this week.  I promised myself I would not fall behind and have to mail out cookie cutter store cards this year!  To make the task less intimidating, I opted to do a clean and simple card for SplitCoast's weekly challenge.

I traced the chipboard "m" on DP and cut the paper letter out. I then glued it to the chipboard base and inked all the edges with distress ink. I altered my sentiment by masking off the letter "m" and some other embellishment with scotch tape before inking. I then removed the tape revealing the letter I needed to stamp. After stamping, I placed the chipboard letter where desired with dimensional foam. For interest, I drew a line around the edges. Thanks for stopping in! See ya soon!

F4A120 ~ So We May Live ~

Have you ever broke down and cryed while doing a simple task? The tears came for me Friday night. I had received an order of stamps from Our Daily Bread and excitedly sat down to color. I stamped my image, pulled out Copics and started to work. But something unusual happened during that 30 minutes at the craft table. Where a blank piece of paper was, an image of the Savior came to be. As I colored the shadows around his eyes and the shadows under his chin, my eyes began to well. I pulled out a red Copic and started to define the streams of blood on his brow and face. As tears poured down my face, I came to realize a simple truth. For each stroke of the marker was like a lash he took for me. As I colored and defined his features, I became painfully, humbly aware of the beating he took for me. I saw the blood on his face and the thorns on his brow and realized how he suffered and died so I may live... so we all may live... Thank you and blessings...

and the inside...

FS278, RS14 ~ Cherry Blossom Birthday ~

Thanks so much for stopping by! I have a fun sketch I've been working on.

And here's my interpretation...

My matting is black and white card stock. And the DP is from Bo Bunny's Serenity Collection. This time instead of using several patterns I opted to cut out a strip of the same paper matting it with black for my accent panel. I also inked the edges of the DP with Ranger Distress Ink (Black Soot.) I also had the opportunity to play with some new Memory Box dies. I used the Cherry Blossom, Tender Leaves and Grove Branch dies for my floral accent. I thought this combo worked well with this paper! The sentiment by Our Daily Bread Designs may be found in the Birthday Blessings set. Super easy! Thanks for stopping in!

SSIC142, JUGS139 ~ Sing ~

Good morning!  I am now on day seven of Cricut withdrawal...  Hubs swears I am not NEARLY as charming as before the Cricut died!  :-)  But this has challenged me to do more stamping and in some cases get EXTREMELY creative about the products I use.  But that's good, right?  Sometimes you gotta knock the dust off of those under appreciated crafting items!

Speaking of under appreciated...  sometime I get stuck in a creative rut.  I really like those "shabby chic" cards.  And sometimes I fail to try other kinds of cards because I am so COMFORTABLE doing what I know how to do!  So today I am attempting to broaden my horizens with another clean and simple card.  I created this one for a sketch challenge at Just Us Girls and the weekly challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ.  The ladies at SSIC asked participants to create a card that depicts any element of heaven—angels, music, clouds, sun, stars, blue, glitter, bling, etc.  When I think of heaven, I think of music!  I found some My Mind's Eye papers (Be Happy) and went to work.  Kinda ironic that the paper pad is named Be Happy!  Me thinks that's a message...    ;-)

So here's the sketch...

And here's my interpretation...

Super easy! As always thanks so much for taking a few moments to stop by!

MOJO244 ~ Great Love ~

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! My Mom and I had the opportunity to share some quality time together. We live close to US 68 a state route which runs from Maysville, Kentucky south. The first weekend in June there is a 400 mile yard sale along this route. Saturday we took some time to check out about 60 miles of it. We found some treasures (my fav was an old St. Bernard print in a mahogany frame). But most importantly, we had some special time together. We had a chance to chat and catch up. Isn't it grand being an adult? I think we appreciate our parents so much more!

As we traveled along, my mom was reminded of a yard sale excursion she and my Dad made many years ago. She relived all of their finds and told me about this beautiful bowl my Dad had found. She asked me what happened to that bowl. Well, I couldn't for the life of me remember a thing about a bowl! The more we discussed it, she remembered that I was fairly young and would not have been with them. She told me how they stopped to browse for a few minutes and Dad found a beautiful pressed glass bowl. He excitedly exclaimed, "Chick would like that!" (Chick was the pet name he called me.) So he hurried over to pay for it. Well after getting home Mom packed the bowl away safe and sound. I grew up, graduated from high school and then college. I married, moved several times, divorced and married again. The whole time I knew nothing of the existence of the bowl. And in 1996 I lost Daddy to cancer. Sixteen years later as I type this, I find myself welling up. Somehow you never get over it... you just learn to live with it...

Tonight, I stopped by to see my Mom. And she had a surprise for me! She presented me with the bowl. As I held that bowl in my hands and felt the grooves, I thought of Daddy holding that in his big calloused hands so long ago. I thought of him seeking it out to give to me, knowing THAT one day I would LOVE that bowl. When he bought the bowl, I was in Middle School and not the least bit interested in "old stuff." But how well he knew his daughter! Because these days as a middle age woman I prowl antique shops and yard sales to find "antiques." I am definitely a Daddy's girl! It's amazing... it's a gift 30 years in the making... but somehow even sweeter... It's a testament to a great love...

Today's Mojo sketch...

And my interpretation...

Thanks for stopping in! Blessings...

F4A119, OCCC and NO CRICUT!!! :-(

Update - I was so distraught about my Cricut I forgot today's photo. Oops! I have modified the post... lol...

I apologize in advance to my dear Cricut followers.  You see today is normally the day I have a Cricut post for Exploring Cricut.  Well, my E2 had other ideas!  When trying to update it with the Cricut Sync program last week...  let's just say something didn't sync....  (big grimace)...  So at the moment I am Cricutless (is that a word?) until PC can figure out what can be done (if anything)...  sigh...  So please take a few moments to visit Diane and company today as they showcase the new challenge.  It looks to be fun!  In the meantime, while I am attempting to wean myself away from die cuts, I'll do some stamping.  I sure hope this doesn't mean I have to give up my Spellbinders too!  YIKES!!!

I created this card for SplitCoast Stampers' Friday Free For All Challenge.  Particpants were asked to make something graduation/celebration related but without a cap, gown, diploma, owl...  the normal graduation trappings.  So I decided to go as feminine as possible and make a paper rose for my central embellishment.  Paper punches are my new favorite toy!

The base is white card stock with a layer of pink CS matting.  I embossed my central panel with Provocrafts' Scrollwork embossing folder before adding to the matting with dimensional foam.  I stamped the sentiment on with Versafine ink before cutting/embossing the panel with Spellbinders.  I also added a scalloped die cut matting from the same pink card stock used on the rose.  I made the rose using McGill paper punches and added a bit of Cheery Lynn Designs Flourish die for interest.  I also added some pearls here and there on the frame.  Well, thanks so much for stopping in and until next time...  blessings...

FS277 ~ You Did It

This CAS card is for this week's Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast. Click here to check it out. Susan Bridgman is the featured stamper. If you have a few moments check out the link and her gallery! She makes some beautiful cards!

So here is my extremely clean and simple creation...

I embossed white card stock with a Sizzix folder (Elegant Wreath) and added it to a black CS base. I make a very simple mortarboard and diploma to attach. The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Designs' May release, Dreams. Quick, easy and perfect for that graduation card I need! Thanks for stopping in and until next time... blessings...

SC387 ~ Congrats on Your Retirement

Do you ever wear a card out? Do you just push the thing around on your craft table until you are sick of looking at it? Do you wonder what you can do differently? I have a terrible time creating retirement cards. You can throw just about any occasion my way and I can cook up a card. But retirements... a whole different story! So with a friend's retirement looming... I took to the craft table and nearly to my bed... lol...

And here's what I came up with...

And I must admit this sketch challenge at SplitCoast Stampers inspired me... (Things are SO MUCH easier when you have a sketch...)

Very clean and very simple. The base is gray card stock with black matting. I pulled a DP from Bo Bunny's Country Garden collection for my background and leaves. The jet flourish is by Zva and pops against the creamy yellow background. Behind my sentiment panel, I added some Spellbinders Foliage leaves with cream and yellow mulberry roses. I also added some black hemp cord tied in a teeny tiny bow. The sentiment I selected may be found in this month's Our Daily Bread Designs' release, Dreams.
.

And speaking of releases... ODBD will be doing a blog hop Friday June 1st featuring their latest releases. And let me just tell ya, they are CUTE!!! I have a darling image on my desk screaming to go on a card... sigh... maybe tomorrow... Until next time... blessings...

STV12MON19 ~ All Our Love

This week's Mix it Up Monday Challenge at StampTV is to create a project for a child.  So I opted to pull out one of my "cute" sets, Warm & Fuzzy, and go to work.  This one is a very clean and simple card.  I tried to focus on bright, primary colors and cartoon like characters to fit the challenge...

The card stock base is green. I framed the focal panel with navy. Behind this panel I placed some fun paper from Echo Park's collection, A Boy's Life. Very simple and super cute! Thanks for stopping in!

And don't forget Friday will be the big release day for Our Daily Bread Designs.
